A Non-Governmental Organization NGO, Voter Education Initiatives VEI has called on Nigerians especially the Youths to play a deliberate role in deciding who becomes their leaders come twenty twenty-three elections.
The team leader of the Organization, Barrister Chris Nnoli stated this to Newsmen during a press briefing in Kaduna.
Barrister Chris Nnoli who explained that their organization was carrying out mass sensitization in the thirty-six states of the federation on voters’ education, appealed to those who were yet to register or collect their Permanent Voters Card to do so.
“We wish to advice Nigerians who are eighteen and above to ensure that they register with the intention to exercise thier civic responsibilities, and incase they register far from their residences, they can go to the nearest INEC office to be relocated to somewhere closer to them for convenience “,he said.
The Team Leader reiterated to registered voter citizens that their votes count, hence the need to ensure full participation in all voting activities aimed at bringing leaders that would improve the economy of the country.
He also charged politicians against any form of vote buying and electoral disturbance while calling on the voters to ensure they do not partake in selling their votes too.
Barrister Chris Nnoli who appreciated INEC for extending the time of the registration, however appealed to them to create more PVC collection centers after registration and ensure timely distribution of the cards to those that registered.
“Apart from sensitization of registration and collection of PVC, Voter Education Initiatives will ensure that we participate during all elections come twenty twenty-three, we shall endeavour to wait and confirm vote counting before vacating to facilitate transparency”, he added.
The team leader described as worrisome the high number of invalid votes as noticed during the Ekiti and Osun States gubernatorial elections due to Inadequate voter education, hence the need for more sensitization awareness.
Barrister Nnoli concluded by explaining that the country would expand and grow only when the right leaders were elected to office.
