Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN, has disassociated its members for involving in the diversion of petroleum products across the country.
President of the body Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo, announced this in a remark while addressing members of the House of Representatives special ad-hoc committee, investigating the Petroleum products subsidy regime in Nigeria.
Mr Okoronkwo, who lauded the house for embarking on the investigative hearing advised that marketers found guilty of the act should be treated as criminals.
He accused some petrol depots of selling the product at the rate of 158 naira per litre instead of the 148 naira price approved by the government, the attitude he described as the cause of the hike in pump price.
In a message, the Speaker House of Representatives Mr Femi Gbajabiamila confirmed that about six trillion naira are said to have been expended by the federal government on oil subsidy from 2017 to 2021 with an appreciable result.
In a remark, also the Chairman of the committee, Alh Ibrahim Aliyu, said their mandate was to find out the actual record of companies and individuals involved and determine the litres of crude oil exported and petroleum products imported within the years under review.
Radio Nigeria reports that stakeholders who attended the investigative hearing include oil marketers and representatives of the ministry of petroleum resources.
