The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Bayo Lawal as the Deputy Governor.

Lawmakers gave the approval on Monday after impeaching the Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan.

Mr Olaniyan was impeached by the lawmakers over allegations of misconduct.

The decision was reached after the lawmakers presented and considered the recommendation of the seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola to investigate the Deputy Governor over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

During Monday’s plenary, Majority leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin, presented its report to the House.

The seven-man panel found the Deputy Governor guilty of all the allegations leveled against him.

Supported by PDP lawmakers

All the 23 PDP lawmakers at the plenary voted in support of the recommendations of the panel.

The probe panel was set up last week to investigate the allegations contained in a petition against Mr Olaniyan.

Governor Seyi Makinde and his deputy, Rauf Olaniya were elected into office in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party but both men fell out over time.
