The kano state commissioner for Health Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa says over 3.1 million children would receive supplement against malaria, while 2.8 million children would be dewormed.

Dr Aminu Tsanyawa stated this during a media beiefing ahead of the exercise which begins on Tuesday July 5th 2022.

The Commissioner explained that there would be childhood immunization to about 68,135 children, while antenatal services would also be provided.

He noted that About 12 million children have been identified to receive the seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention for the months of July to October 2022 in the 44 government areas of the state.

Tsanyawa maintained that the four-day exercise would be conducted along side the annual Maternal New born and Child Health Week (MNCHW).

“The aim he said, was to prevent uncomplicated and similar proportion of severe malaria incidences amongst the age group.”

“We are integrating the two exercises although the MNCHW is a week long event conducted twice every year.”

“It has a high impact low-cost interventions offered to pregnant women and children below the age of five to increase coverage level of preventive and curative health indicators.”

The Commissioner highlighted that the previous exercise conducted in January 2022, recorded huge success with Vitamin A coverage more than 88 percent.

He expressed optimism that the current round of the exercise would achieve greater impact, considering government’s increased support to the exercise.

“The exercise would provide Vitamin A supplementation to over 3.1 million children while over 2.8 million children would be dewormed.”
