The Peace and Conflict Resolution PCR Department of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja in collaboration with its state counterpart have organized a one-day sensitization and evaluation program for divisional officers, outposts heads and peace and conflict desk officers in the 27 Local Government Areas of Jigawa State.

This is an effort to reinvigorate and revitalize the Peace and Conflict Resolution Units toward meeting up with the contemporary challenges for improved service delivery.

The Program facilitator, CSC Abdulkadir Umar of the PCR Department of the NSCDC Headquarters, said the sensitization exercise was aimed at equipping desk officers with the rudiments of alternative dispute resolution to assist in tackling the enormous and complex aspects of Peacebuilding for warring parties by the international best practice. 

According to him, the sensitization exercise is also to enhance the performance of peace desk officers in tackling ADR from the concept of early warning and response mechanism.

CSC Abdulkadir Umar further stressed that the training exercise was in line with the Commandant General’s vision of rejigging, revamping and repositioning the Corps to a greater height.

In an opening remark, the Jigawa State Commandant, Mustapha Talba commended the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi for authoring the sensitization exercise.

Talba expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Department of the National Headquarters in conducting the exercise across the 37 States including the FCT and the 774 LGA’s in the country.

 He said this would also go a long way in enhancing the performance of desk officers in handling civil cases, especially in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The Commandant added that, with the advent of the rainy season, PCR Unit would partner agro rangers of the command towards tackling farmers and herders conflicts considering the state being agrarian, without recourse to violence. 

Radio Nigeria reports that the program is being attended by the heads of various departments and units, area commanders as well as trainees.
