Ride Bicycles To Keep Fit, Healthy -FRSC Urges Nigerians

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Bauchi Sector Command has called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of riding bicycles to keep themselves physically fit and healthy.

The Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi made the call at an event to mark this year’s World Bicycle Day celebration, held in Bauchi metropolis.

Corps Commandant Yusuf Abdullahi who said the importance of riding a bicycle cannot be quantified in view of its health benefits, called on federal government to make it a policy that for every road construction, a pathway for bicycles be provided to ensure safety of riders.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu emphasised the need for people to own a bicycle to keep fit and minimise consumption of petrol.

Comrade Umar Sa’idu decried the level of dilapidation of the Bauchi-Gombe highway and appealed to the federal government to reconstruct the road to ease the hardship being experienced by its users.

The event attracted secondary school students in Bauchi metropolis, staff of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA as well as military and paramilitary officials.

World Bicycle Day being celebrated every year on 3rd June, was set aside by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 to recognise bicycling as a way to get a sustainable form of traveling that also ensures one’s physical well being.
