Tedros Ghebreyesus Re-elected As WHO Director-General

The World Health Assembly has re-elected the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus for another 5 year term.

He was re-elected at the ongoing 75th World Health Assembly holding in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr Ghebreyesus was first elected in 2017 and will officially commence his new mandate on August 16, 2022.

The president of the 75th assembly, Ahmed Abdilleh, while quoting the session of the constitution approving the contract invited Dr Ghebreyesus to take the oath of office.

The WHO Director-General, after signing the contract expressed his appreciation for the re-election and highlighted 3 priorities for the next tenure which is to promote health, to focus on primary health care for universal health coverage and emergency preparedness for disease prevention and manage.
