Federal government has been urged to reopen Chikanda and Barbara borders located along Kwara and Niger states to promote trade along the communities.

The President of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture,(NACCIMA), Olalekan Ayodimeji made the call while speaking with journalists on the sideline of the planned 62nd Annual General Meeting/conference of the association in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

He said traders and people in the affected communities are groaning, adding that their means of livelihood were daily being impacted by the border closure.

Ayodimeji said that federal government could better assess the border closure based on reasons for the closure.

He appealed to the federal government to help the business communities formalize the reopening of the border to make life easier.

Ayodimeji also commended Kwara state government for its determination to improve road infrastructure in the Northern part of the state, noting that the area has the potential to earn the state foreign exchange.
