Speakers and Heads of Parliaments across Africa have advocated a debt management legislation that will compel the executive arm to report and publish public debt reports regularly as well as proper oversight to proactively reduce Africa’s debt profile.

In a fourteen-point communiqué at the end of a two-day Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments, the Participants suggested strong punitive measures against the unconstitutional overthrow of governments to resist military coups and defend Africa’s democracy.

It also recommends increasing budgetary allocations to agriculture to enhance productivity and build internal capacity for food production to eliminate Africa’s import dependency.

Other areas include expansion of social protection and safety nets to achieve equitable growth, building a resilient health defense system for future pandemics as well as accelerating demand for debt cancellation.

Radio Nigeria Reports that Fourteen Heads of African Parliaments participated in the event convened by the Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.
