KDSG Distributes 6m Insecticide Treated Nets To Pregnant Women

Kaduna State Government says it will distribute about six million insecticide-treated nets to households in July this year for the benefit of pregnant women and children.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Mohmmed Balani announced this at a news briefing as part of activities to mark this year’s World Malaria Day.

Dr Baloni explained that, malaria programme had the highest budgetary approval for its activities in the state’s annual operational plan.

According to her, Procurement of anti-malarial commodities, through the state health supplies management agency is worth about 298 million naira.

She also stated that part of activities planned for the Day in Kaduna including meeting with stakeholders to discuss the innovative approach for the day.

“25th April is a day set aside by World Health Organization to commemorate as World Malaria Day Each year is celebrated with a theme and this year’s theme is “ADVANCE EQUITY, BUILD RESILIENCE, END MALARIA “.

Dr Baloni said the aim of the commemoration was to raise awareness on the global attention on the efforts being made to bring an end to malaria as well as encourage actions to reduce suffering and deaths from the disease.

According to her, 229 million cases was recorded globally, with an estimated 409,000 mortality as indicated by World malaria record 2020.

He said most African children less than 5yrs accounted for about 67% of death as a result of the scourge. 

Dr Baloni noted that, the day was used to assess progress made toward controlling malaria and reducing its mortality in African countries.
