Learning Center Established In WASSA IDP Camp

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons has established a transitional learning centre Wassa Internally Displaced Persons Camp in the Federal Capital Territory.

National Commissioner Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, who inaugurated the learning facility, indicated that the students would be educated both traditionally and vocationally in order for them to catch up with their contemporaries.

Hajiya Imaan stated that the Centre is the pilot, as funding for 4 camps was included in the 2021 budget and would be increased in the 2022 budget.

These displacements keep coming up and as a government, we are trying to catch, in some camps, this kind of facility does exist in a different form, this project is a pilot and would be replicated in some camps for, she said.

Mrs Ifedinma Niigwe, Executive Director of the Implementing Organization, stated that the program would function under the curriculum of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.

Because of the violence, many of them have been out of school for a long time, particularly those from the North East; our main goal here is to catch them up; we are utilizing the UBEC Curriculum so that they can cope wherever they find themselves, Mrs Niigwe added.
