FG Approves New Communication Curriculum – VC

Vice Chancellor Bayero University Kano (BUK),Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas says the federal government has approved a new revised communication curriculum with nine new courses.

Professor Sagir made the disclosure during the commissioning of the new BUK digital television studio, held at broadcasting complex, faculty of communication.

He explained that, the focus of Bayero University Kano faculty of communication is fine tuned with a reviewed curriculum and new online training facilities, data and investigative journalism among others.

The vice Chancellor noted that, the support of Macarthur foundation has yielded positive results as it is at the fore front of ensuring the growth and development of Bayero University Kano.

“Apart from the federal government and perhaps world bank,MacArthur foundation rank the highest in terms of contributing to the growth and development of this institution”

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor federal university Kashere Gombe,who doubles as convener, Professor Umaru Pate said the foundation has received over two hundred thousand dollars as intervention grants, for the execution of some projects.

He pointed out that, some of the interventions include, establishment and commissioning of digital radio and television stations, sponsoring 22 academic staff on internship and attachment to leading online and conventional media houses and institutions.

“Similarly with the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in 202, the faculty recieved an intervention grant of one hundred thousand dollars to support the university to expand it’s capacity”.

In his remarks, President Macarthur foundation Mr. John Palfrey described faculty of communication Bayero University Kano as among the best in the World.

He reaffirmed the foundation’s readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders in uplifting the standard of education and ensuring gender equity.

Mr Palfrey commended the management and staff of Bayero University Kano for their commitment and dedication.

“I believe we are hoping to be more devoted to greater levels,gender equality and social inclusion to bring about a more peaceful world and ensure government accountability”

The event attracted prominent journalists, academics , students and the general public.
