One hundred and twenty Zamfara state indigenes have departed Nigeria for Togo to undergo bachelor’s and master’s degrees programmes at a university Lome.

Addressing the beneficiaries in Gusau before their departure, the Coordinator of the scholarship programme, Alhaji Ahmad Garba-Yandi, charged them to be law-abiding and focused on their studies.

The beneficiaries of the programme sponsored by a philanthropist were urged to use the opportunity given to them to become good ambassadors of Zamfara and Nigeria in general.

Garba Yandi further explained that, all their tuition and accommodation fees have been paid by the philanthropist, which amounted to about two hundred million naira.

Speaking, an APC stalwart in the state, Malam Mani Masama, said sponsoring 120 students abroad by a single individual was the first of its kind from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

He called on the sponsors of the scholarship to closely monitor the students to ensure that those who could not deliver well are returned back to the country.

In his speech, a former education and information commissioner, Ibrahim Danmalikin Gidan Goga commended the philanthropist for the gesture and called on the beneficiaries to make good use of it in order to become useful members of their societies.

Ibraim Danmaliki who is also a Publicity Secretary of former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari APC faction challenged those who viewed the sponsorship of the 120 students as politically motivated to come out and do the same.

Danmaliki advised the beneficiaries of the foundation to behave well and concentrate on their studies so as to come out with flying colours.
