No fewer than five people lost their lives in a puddle trench at Yanlami village in Bichi local government area of Kano state.

Narrating the incident,public relations officer of Kano state fire service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi explained that the young men were digging sand at the puddle trench to assist their friend in building a house for his upcoming wedding.

He said,some part of the trench collapsed and trapped them which led to their death.

“We recieved a rescue call at 10:32 am from Malam Sunusi Badume on arrival at 11:05 our men discovered that five men were trapped in a puddle trench while digging sand”

The public relations officer maintained that, a rescue team attached to Bichi fire station succeeded in retrieving the victims unconscious and later confirmed dead by health officials.

He described the disaster as unfortunate and charged the general public to maintain safety at all times.

Saminu pointed out that those affected include, 22 year old Alasan Abdulhamid, Muhammad Sulaiman, Masa’udu Nasiru, Jibrin Musa and Jafaru Abdulwahabu.

He said , the deceased have been handed over to Bichi police division officer Aminu Idris and Yanlami village head for necessary action.

“I will use this opportunity to advise the general public to be more vigilant and maintain safety at all times to avoid disasters”

Yanlami village was thrown into deep mourning following the demise of the young men, who have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
