Reports from Gwaram community and other motorists plying Gwaram bridges linking jigawa and Bauchi states have staged a protest against the restriction imposed on the bridges.

Radio Nigeria reports that, some of the protesters says the protest is aimed at drawing the attention of state government to provide them with alternative road.

Baban Fati, a driver who constantly plies the road said, as a result of the restriction imposed on the bridges, the fuel scarcity aggravated in the area while the price of foodstuffs and other materials have increased drastically.

When contacted, the permanent secretary ministry of works and transport Alhaji Datti Ahmed said the two bridges were damaged by flood last year.

He pointed out that, after engineering assessment, the Jigawa government had resolved to closed those bridges for repairs which would cost millions of naira.

He explained that light trucks and buses can pass through the bridges, while heavy trucks were restricted to avoid total collapse and also for motorists safety before the commencement of the work.

Datti Ahmed, therefore, advised motorists to use another alternative road for the movement of goods and services.

It could be recalled that, the jigawa state government announced the closure of Gwaram and Basirka Bridges for major repairs last year.
