A pressure group, Society for Patriotic Leadership and Unity in Nigeria, has threatened to take legal action against the Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, over what it called wastage of public funds and resources.

A statement signed by an official of the group, Abba Hamisu, and made available to newsmen in Dutse, challenged the negligent handling of the ICT centre donated to the union by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, last year.

It explains that the facility has remained unused due to negligence and lack of competence by the council’s executives led by Mallam Sunusi Madobi.

The statement warns that the internet service at the ICT centre has gone to waste for the last one year and will expire in the next three years without being put to use.

The group urged stakeholders in Jigawa state NUJ to demand accountability from the state council EXCO with regards to the ICT centre.

The pressure group will also write formally to the council executives using the Freedom of Information Act to demand reasons why the facility has not been put to use for the benefit of NUJ members in the state. The statement adds
