Borno state government has launched one hundred taxis, five hundred tricycles and ten 41-seater buses to ease transportation challenges in Maiduguri metropolis and environs.

At a ceremony, Governor Babagana Zulum said the vehicles will enhance urban mass transportation in Maiduguri, Jere and Konduga Local Government Areas.  

He explained that two thousand two hundred youths would benefit from the tricycles and the taxis and have fifty percent subsidy of repayment.

Governor Zulum also announced fifty million naira grant to one thousand members of different Keke Napep tricycle operators who have not benefited from the urban transportation project.

According to him, the transportation support will streamline the economy, provide job opportunities to unemployed youth and address transportation problem.

Commissioner for Transport, Honourable Abubakar Tijjani, assured of effective and efficient supervision to ensure functional deployment to routes in line with the governor’s goal of increasing access to mass transport in the metropolis. 

A total of 3,200 youths would benefit from the distribution of the tricycles, taxis and grant.
