Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku has expressed shock over the allegations raised against his administration by the leadership of the state Muslim Council, alleging that the council has been hijacked by some unpatriotic politicians.

Ishaku was reacting to a press conference held by the Muslim Council on Friday 21/01/2022 accusing his administration of marginalizing its members, saying that “In fact, Government views the action of the council as a blatant attempt to cause religious and political tension in the state.

Governor Darius Ishaku who spoke through the state Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Hon. Danjuma Adamu during a press briefing held at Nuj Press Center in Jalingo described the allegations made by the Muslim Council as false, ridiculous as well as misleading.

“The Taraba State Government equally views the move as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed in the state, particularly the mutual respect among the adherents of the two dominant religions.

“During the Christmas homage on Governor Darius Ishaku in December last year, the Muslim Council led by its Chairman, Abdulmumin Abubakar, a retired Khadi praised His Excellency for his fairness in dealing with the two major religions.

“But what may be responsible for the sudden change in the position of the Muslim Council? Could this be hypocrisy or what went wrong? The leadership of the Council will be in a better position to explain the sudden twist of events”. The Governor challenges the Council.

Governor Ishaku, therefore, insisted that his administration did not exhibit bias against any group in the state, whether ethnic or religious in appointments and the provision of amenities, noting that it strictly adhered to the constitutional provisions and all other existing statutory guidelines in appointments to key positions in government.

“The administration has been fair and just in the application of these rules and ensured that sentiments play no role”. Said Governor Ishaku.
