NUT Directs Primary School Teachers in Niger State to Sit at home.

Primary school teachers in Niger state have been directed to sit at home.

The directive to this effect was given by the Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers Niger state Chapter Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria in Minna.

Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed explained that the directive became necessary to protest payment of percentage salary to primary school teachers by some twelve out of twenty five local government councils in Niger state.

He lamented that for over six months some primary school teachers have been subjected to payment of salary on percentage and despite December ultimatum and series of meetings to end the problem it has persisted.

Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed maintained that primary school teachers in Niger state will remain at home until concrate and genuine arrangement is made to commence payment of their salaries in full.

He however said primary school teachers in Niger state have been subjected to untold hardship ranging from withdrawing their children from schools and inability to settle their house rent and utility bills duẹ to non payment of their full salary for over six months.

Comrade Akayago Adamu also appeealed to parents to bear with them stressing that they will resume teaching as soon as their problem is addressed.
