Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy more troops and resources in Sokoto state to end the activities of bandits.

In a statement signed by Special Adviser on Media, Muhammad Bello, the governor says Sokoto state is very vulnerable to attacks and kidnappings by bandits.

The statement says the Governor made the appeal when he received Federal Government delegation led by the National Security Adviser Major General Muhammad Babagana Munguno retired.

According to the governor, the consequences of the joined security operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara state launched by the Nigeria Army had exposed Sokoto State to broad daylight attacks and kidnappings especially in parts of Isa, Sabon Birni, Tangaza, Illela and several other local government areas of the state.

Tambuwal regretted that bandits were carrying out their operations without any blockage around the neighboring states, particularly Sokoto.

The governor said there is need for more boots on ground stressing that urgent action needed to be taken to address the situation.

Earlier in his remarks, General Monguno, who led the team consisting the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo, the Directors-General of the State Security Service and the National Intelligence Agency, Yusuf Maitama Bichi and Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar, said they were in Sokoto on a specific mission on the instruction of President Buhari, to condole the good people of Sokoto on the unfortunate incidents happening in the state.

He explained that their visit affirmed the seriousness with which Mr President view the occurrence of bandits attacks in which innocent lives have been lost.

Munguno said Mr President conveyed his profound condolence over the loss of all the citizens who have loss their lives while assuring the FG’s commitment to ending insurgency in the country.
