House of Representatives is to investigate non Completion of the Rehabilitation on Paki Dam in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This followed a motion by a member from Kaduna State Alh Hamisu Ibrahim Kubau, adopted by the lawmakers during a plenary session.

Alh Hamisu Kubau told the house that the Paki Dam rehabilitation was awarded in 2003, later abandoned by the contractor without any justifiable reason.

The lawmaker maintained that non Completion of work on the Dam had greatly affected the implementation of the Federal Government’s policy of diversifying the economy through agriculture to increase food production and security in the country.

He said, if fully rehabilitated the Paki Dam would help meet the demand of communities in the area by producing large quantities of farm products like rice, wheat, vegetable fish farming and provide a wide range of economic and environmental benefits.

Mover of the motion however appealed to the house to intervene by ensuring the project was retrieved from the contractor since he lacked the capacity to handle the rehabilitation to allow the affected communities benefit from the project.

Adopting the motion, the house directed its Committee on Water resources to interface with the ministry of water resources to ensure timely completion of work on the Dam.
