Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stressed the importance for old students associations to contribute towards the growth, progress, and development of the Society and their alma mater.
He made the statement during an Occasion organized by the Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA) held at the Convocation Arena of Bayero University Kano.
Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nasir Yusif Gawuna said old students have a great role to play in uplifting educational activities of the state.
He said when old students give back to their colleges, it assists the government because the fund goes to new facilities and research, saying such initiatives instill ideals in current students to copy and emulate in the future.
He, therefore, commended the efforts of KASSOSA for their determination and commitment to developing their alma mater.
“The administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been giving attention to science colleges in the State and will continue to do more in that direction”.
“Kano State Government is proud of the products of the Science Colleges many of whom have excelled in their chosen professional careers across the globe, he said”.
He assured the leadership of KASSOSA of more commitment and support from the Kano State Government.
The Deputy Governor however announced the donation of N5 million from the State Government to KASSOSA and also his personal donation of N2 million naira being a former student.
In his remarks, the National President of KASSOSA, Pharmacist Ghali Sule said the idea of the fundraising was nurtured by the present executive members of the association when they came on board.
“We deem it fit to mobilize resources and support the government’s effort of imparting quality education to the teeming populace, this is following the realization that the science colleges need rehabilitation and that the responsibility should not be left for the government alone to shoulder it”.
He assured that transparency and due process would be followed in the utilization of the funds generated.
During the Occasion, over forty Million Naira was raised from donations and pledges made by the members of the Association.
