FG insists No Record Of The Covid19 New Variant

Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa

Federal Government says there is no record case of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 in Nigeria at the moment, despite Canadian government claims that two passengers from Nigeria tested positive.

Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, stated this at the Presidential Steering Committee briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Director-General of NCDC said there was no need to speculate assumptions.

“I think what we need to do is to focus on what we actually know. And what we know, for now, is that we do not have a case in Nigeria at the moment”. Dr Adetifa stated.

Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire explained that Nigeria was adopting a watchful, waiting posture to understudy the development.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha urged all civil servants to be vaccinated before the December 1 deadline.

Also, World Health Organization categorized Omicron as a “variant of concern” as countries around the world are now placing restricting travel from southern Africa, to prevent another pandemic.

The Omicron variant, first detected in South Africa, is believed to be highly transmissible, but it is not yet clear how deadly it is to public health.
