The Coalition of Northern Groups(CNG) has called on federal government to shun the demands of some Igbo leaders calling for the release of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The Spokesman of the Coalition, Abdulazeez Sulaiman made the call while briefing newsmen at Kano Correspondents chapel, NUJ Secretariat Kano state.

According to the group, President Muhammadu Buhari should use judicial process in the prosecution of Nnamdi rather than Presidential pardon.

The Spokesman explained that, prosecuting Kanu becomes necessary due to propaganda, hate speech and dangerous campaigns he had engaged in which led to the destruction of lives and properties.

“Where criminals of all shades will commit crimes against the country, and then asked their traditional rulers and other regional or tribal leaders to press for their release” he said.

Abdulazeez Sulaiman maintained that, the visit by some interest groups in the South East demanding for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu which President Buhari responded that the demand was a tough one but would be looked into, is uncalled for.

He noted that, throughout the years, IPOB had been committing atrocious activities against the Sovereignty of the Nation, trying to cause mayhem against Nigerians, the interest groups advocating for his unconditional release never deemed it necessary to call him to order.

” Destruction of national security assets, democratic symbols and killing of about 400 security personnel and orphaned their families”.

The Group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to refuse being conjoled into interfering with the standard principle of separation of powers and independence of the judiciary.
