Kano State Ministry of Water Resources says it is committed to the provision of portable drinking water, rehabilitation of existing infrastructure especially the dams, and improving water supple in the rural areas.

The Kano state Commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Muhammad Sadik Wali made the disclosure while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget at the State House of Assembly.

According to him, the budget of over six billion naira was designed to improve the ministry’s services especially water production capacity at Chalawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants.

The commissioner decried lack of adequate electricity as some of the major factors contributing to the decline in supply from the two major water treatment plants.

Alhaji Muhammad Sadik also revealed that the state government had procured a loan from France in addition to partnership with development partners to ensure adequate water provision and supply.

Also in his presentation, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, explained that the 2022 proposed budget would go a long way in boosting food sufficiency and animal farming.

Gawuna who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engineer Balarabe Hassan Karaye, said the ministry was committed to mapping out policies and programs aimed at upgrading farming in the state according to global best practices.

Government owned ministries and Parastatals that have so far defended their proposed budgets include, ministry for local governments, Tourism board, Rural access and mobility projects, Kano state investment and property (KSIP) and Kano state Agricultural and Rural development Authority(KNARDA).
