FG Earmarks N1.1bn For Investigation On Contracts

Federal Government says investigation into contracts allegedly signed by previous administrations with Process and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) is ongoing.

The contracts were described to be in breach of due process and procedure and can cause a loss of over $10 billion.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami stated this at the 2022 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

Mr Malami said the P&ID contract did not pass through his office, and that the contract clauses were inimical to Nigeria’s interest.

According to him, the Taskforce set up for the investigation will spend N1.1 billion in 2022 to conduct holistic findings on 9 other contracts signed against the interest of the country by previous administrations.

The Ministry proposed N11.8 billion for the year 2022.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human rights and legal matters Bamidele Opeyemi decried the soaring Judgement Debts which have become a source of national embarrassment. Mr Opeyemi called for urgent actions by the Ministry of Justice to address the situation.
