National Defence College says supporting and improving agricultural sector through application of science and technology is one of the key measures to tackle social vices and security challenges in Nigeria.

The Team Leader of participants of course 30, National Defence College, Air Commodore Abolaji Orederu Stated this while fielding questions from newsmen during a study tour to Jigawa state.

According to him, Jigawa is one of the most peaceful state in Nigeria, adding that, the huge investments into agriculture by both government and private sector has engaged thousands of youth which contributed to peace and stability in the state.

Air Commodore Abolaji said the application of high technology into agriculture such as that of Mallam ALU Agro Allied Farm in Birnin kudu local government area was a clear indication that, if agriculture is being supported, will grant food security to the nation.

He said the team understand that, agriculture was one of the area Nigeria had comparative advantage  across all the six geopolitical zone, and it had the potential to provide millions of jobs to teaming populace which help in wealth creation and poverty eradication.

Abolaji Orederu pointed out that, challenges in the country had relationship with poverty and ignorance.

He said, the team were optimistic that supporting crops and livestock production can help in addressing the challenge.

The Air Commodore commended the Chairman of the Mallam Alu for establishing the farm in his locality where it improves food production and provide job opportunities to hundreds of youth both male and females.

Mr Abolaji also commended the traditional system of security reporting used by traditional institute in the state and the mechanisms put in place to share the information with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, noting that it is an excellent approach and worthy of emulation across the nation.
