Federal Government has been urged to take proactive measures in addressing the continued increase of food stuff prices and cooking gas across the country.

Some residents of Dutse, the Jigawa state capital gave the advise in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Dutse.

According to him, the way prices of gas and food items are increasing daily is very alarming and disturbing to any household leader or parents in general.

He said in view of the rising prices the purchasing power of people decreases day by day as a result of inflation and high cost of food items.

Sani Labbo further explained that traders, retailers and dealers of essential commodities also find it difficult to make both end meet, as patronage to their goods and services becomes low.

He therefore urged federal government to come up with effective monetary policy aimed at stabilizing the naira values

He also called on governments all levels to support local production of essential commodities to make things easy for Nigerians.

Another resident, Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim said the 12kg cooking gas people were buying at the cost of between N4,000 and N5,000 in the last 18 months, now costs about N8,000.

She further decried the continued increase in the prices of some food items, such as spaghetti, macaroni, cooking oil and flour.
