The Federal government has launched the distribution of agricultural input to seven thousand, three hundred and eighty six farmers affected by the 2020 flood in Borno state.

At a ceremony in Maiduguri, Director General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said the farmers were selected from eleven local government areas of the state. 

Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed explained that Borno state was selected for the flag off of the distribution of inputs to farmers in the northeast following the Impact of devastation in the aftermath of 2020 flood.

According to him a verification exercise was conducted by the Agency to compile a database of farmers that lost their crops in the unfortunate disaster. 

Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed maintained that the distribution of the inputs is in fulfilment of Federal government recovery intervention to the farmers and ensure food sufficiency in the country.

The Director General commended Borno state Governor for his commitment to restoring normalcy and addressing the humanitarian situation in the state.

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum appreciated the President for his continued support to Internally displaced persons in the state.

He said the intervention will greatly help in restoring the livelihood of victims of insurgency.

Commissioner for Agriculture Alhaji Bukar Talba called on the beneficiaries to make better use of the input to improve their means of livelihood. 

The farmers are to benefit from either of the three crops approved for the state which included rice, sorghum and cowpea in addition to herbicide, pesticide and growth enhancer while liquid fertilizer will be given only to rice and sorghum farmers. 

Earlier the Director General and his team paid a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum where he informed him that Agency has stockpiled food items that will last to end of the year and requested for storage facility where the Governor promised to provide warehouses to keep the food items.
