Two prominent Bankers have been recognized for their contributions to corporate Governance and rule of Law in the nation’s banking Industry.

They are the Chairman, Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers, Dr. Herbert Wigwe and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The awards were presented by the Juris Law Office and the National Judicial Institute in Abuja during a workshop for Judicial Officers on recent reforms in the Banking Sector in Nigeria.

In a remark, Dr Wigwe, who’s also the Managing Director of Access Bank said the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Act 2020 will promote a stronger, more transparent and efficient financial system in the country.

He urged Lawyers to look into contemporary issues in the nation’s banking sector and come up with workable ways of resolving financial disputes.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele tasked the Judiciary to keep abreast of development in the financial sector to adjudicate efficiently on matters relating to the financial system.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability, Aisha Ahmad said the Bank and Other Financial Institutions Act, BOFIA 2020 had taken into consideration  the various developments in the financial space including financial technology and modern trends in payment systems which are all evolving.
