KNSG Committed To Uplifting Standard of Living, Drug Abuse Eradication – Commissioner

Eradicating drug abuse and uplifting the standard of living among citizens has been identified as one of the cardinal objectives of Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration.

The Kano state commissioner for women affairs and social development Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar stated this during a courtesy visit to Karaye Emirate council.

According to the commissioner, Kano state government was committed to inculcating moral values among the general public especially women and youths who are at the forefront for any meaningful societal development.

She maintained that, the state government had rehabilitated hundreds of women and youths as well as engaging them in entrepreneurship skills to reduce unemployment.

Dr. Zahra’u explained that the Kiru reformatory center has been upgraded to compete with others globally.

The commissioner decried the rising cases of drug abuse and charged philanthropists and wealthy individuals to assist in rehabilitating Karaye women center to empower women and totally eradicate drug abuse in the society which is one of the major catalysts of crimes in the society.

In his remarks, the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II, expressed satisfaction with the state government’s efforts in its fight aginst drug abuse and all forms of societal vices as the Kiru reformatory institute was committed to promoting good moral upbringing.

He noted that the rehabilitation of the Kiru Women center will go a long way in ensuring that women were not left behind in terms of development and enterprenuership.

Radio Nigeria recalls that few years ago, the Kano state government established the Kiru reformatory institute to cater for drug addicts, where young men and women undergo rehabilitation and enterprenuership training to become self reliant.
