Angry protesters in Isa local government area of Sokoto state set ablaze the personal residence of Sokoto Commissioner for Career and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi Retired.

The angry mob mostly youths also stormed the residence of the District Head of Isa, Sarkin Gobir na Isa, Alhaji Nasiru Ahmed and destroyed vehicles and other items .

The protesters have for long accused the commissioner for not making serious effort towards ending the activities of bandits and other criminal gangs in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Sokoto state police command PPRO ASP Sanusi Abubakar said reports have reached the command on the incident and that arrests were made.

According to Sanusi , a peaceful gathering was organised by some notable citizens of the area which was intended to discuss way forward over the issue of security in the area.

It was organised in good faith and resolutions was agreed to be forwarded to appropriate channels for further action when some bad elements took advantage of the protest and caused disorder which led to the unfortunate incident.

” Although, no life was lost but they razed down the residence of the Commissioner and destroyed some vehicles of the District Head”.

According to the PPRO the command had arrested the organisers of the protest and some of those believed to have taken part in the destruction.

Sanusi said the Commissioner of Police in the state Kamaludeen Okunola ordered a full scale investigations and assured all those involved were arrested accordingly.

Okunola warned against taking laws into their hands while assuring that the police would not relent at securing the lives and property of citizens.

He said the command is determined to ensure a crime free Sokoto state with the active cooperation and support of the people in the state with useful information .
