Niger state House of Assembly is to investigate payment of salaries on percentage basis by some local government councils.

It is also to Investigate the confidential deduction of local government council funds by the ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on monthly basis.

The decision to this effect was taken following a motion of urgent public importance presented by a member representing Paikoro constituency Suleiman Gambo Rabiu on staff of the local government being paid sixty six percent of their salaries for the months of July and August.

He however explained that the Chairman of Paikoro local government council was approached by labour union that fifty to forty million naira were deducted from the local government allocation for two months.

The Chairman told the labour leaders that such deductions are confidential.

In their resolution the law makers mandated Committee on Local Government to invite any Council Chairman with similar case to explain why deductions were made in their allocation that forced them to pay salaries on percentage.

Responding Permanent Secretary ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abubakar Aliyu said the deductions were made in a transparent manner arguing that there is nothing confidential about it.
