About ninety days after the abduction of one hundred and thirty six Islamiyya school pupils of Salihu Tanko Tegina in Rafi local government council of Niger state by armed gunmen have been released.

Radio Nigeria revealed that the released children who were looking devastated and malnourished were released yesterday evening by their abductors on Pandogari Birnin Gwari road bordering Niger and Kaduna states.

Confirming the incident, Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the released children are to be taken to the Government House Minna for medical attention.

Ahmed Ibrahim Matane further said after which they would be reunited with their families and loved ones.

He however did not give further details on number of children released though it is the policy of Niger state government not to pay ransom to bandits.

Source close to Niger state government told Radio Nigeria in condition of anonymity that about six buses were used in company of combined security operatives to receive the abducted Tegina Islamiyya school pupils that regained their freedom after months of uncertainty in the forest.
