The ongoing construction at the market

A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Sulaiman Namallam has restrained Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) and Kano State Bureau for Land Management from erecting temporary or permanent structures on any part of Ta’Anbo and Bayajidda street of Kantin Kwari market.

The interim order was made after an application by counsel to the applicants, Barrister Abba Hikmah Fagge.

According to the lawyer, the order restrained the respondents or any other person from doing or allowing anything to be done that will obstruct or temper with the applicants rights of landed properties at Ta’Anbo and Bayajidda street of Kantin Kwari market.

Barrister Abba Hikmah explained that, Justice Namallam had ordered all parties in the suit to maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.

Radio Nigeria recalls that few days ago, thousands of Traders known as ‘yan tebura’ conducted a peaceful protest to express their dissatisfaction over the construction of shops and erection of permanent Iron tables at Layin Ta’Anbo.

Meanwhile, the traders led by one of the market leaders, Alhaji Balarabe Tatari had visited the Kano Emir’s palace Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Kano business tycoon, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, managing director of the Kano road Traffic agency (KAROTA) DR. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi as well as other relevant stakeholders to inform them about their plight which they claimed would affect over 5,000 small and medium scale traders.

The court howver fixed 19th August 2021 for hearing of motion on notice.
