FG/NARD: Reps To Ensure Full Implementation Of Agreements

House of Representatives is to intervene towards ensuring full implementation of all agreements reached between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Doctors.

Chairman, House Committee on Health and Services, Dr. Tanko Sununu gave the assurance at the end of a two-day day Tripartite Meeting over the industrial action embarked by the National Association of Resident Doctors.

Dr. Tanko Sununu who decried the suffering Nigerians are going through due to the strike, insisted the House would follow all steps needed to ensure the striking doctors resumed duties.

The Committee Chairman also confirmed that the meeting agreed on almost all the Doctor’s grievances and efforts are being made to find lasting solution on the matter.

On the issue of N5.42 billion naira earmarked for residency training in 2020 and 2021, Director General, Budget Office of the Federation, Mr Ben Akabueze, informed the lawmakers that the fund would be paid once relevant procedure is followed.

Issues agreed in the meeting include payment of outstanding Medical Training Fund, manpower in the health sector as well as regularization of those affected by the salary migration to IPPIS.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Health, Permanent Secretaries Ministry of Finance and Head of Service, Director General Budget Office, Chief Medical Directors of Federal Health Institutions as well as NARD and NMA executives.
