The Nigerian Communications Commission says the deployment of 5G wireless network will put Nigeria among the leading economies of the world.

Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Prof. Garba Danbatta stated this in Abuja at the first international conference on multidisciplinary engineering and applied sciences.

Represented by the Director technical standard and network integrity of the commission Mr. Bako Wakil, Professor Danbatta said the Federal Government would provide the enabling environment for telecom operators to deploy 5G network at their own pace.

Another speaker at the event, Professor Wole Soboyejo of the African University of Science and Technology while speaking on the topic “New frontiers for applied science and engineering, from medicine to energy and the environment” explained that an interdisciplinary approach towards solving societal problems was necessary.

The vice Chancellor Turkish Nile University of Nigeria, Professor Usman Nuri-Aras said the conference would serve as an avenue for experts to shape the future of engineering together.

There were goodwill messages from the National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, and the National Open University of Nigeria.
