Nigerians have been urged to shun religious rivalry and embrace peace to ensure better development across the country.

Prelate of Catholic Church of Nigeria, Cardinal John Onaiyekan made the call at a one -day religious summit held in Ilorin.

He advised Nigerians to inculcate the habit of tolerance and sued for understanding amongst the adherents of different faith in the interest of the nation.

In his message, the Grand Khadi of Kwara State , represented by Mallam Abdulraheem Sayi said that the core teachings of the two major religions encourages having respect for other people’s religion and frowns at being fanatical.

In their separate remarks, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir and Catholic Bishop of Ilorin, Bishop Paul Olawore said ignorance, intolerance and struggle for power are part of the factors causing religious crisis in the country.

Earlier in his address, convener of the One Day summit, George Jimoh said that the programme was necessary due to recurrent unrest in the country and need to find ways to restore peace.
