The Nigeria Custom service Kano Jigawa Command says it has intercepted the sum of one hundred and eighty four thousand eight hundred US Dollars, and One Million seven hundred and twenty three Thousand ,three hundred and Ten Saudi riyals at Malam Aminu Kano international Airport.
The Comptroller of NSC ,Kano jigawa command Suleiman Pai stated this while briefing Journalist in Kano.
He said one Sabo Sulaiman arrived on Ethiopian Airlines Enrouted Saudi Arabia , Ethiopia to Kano Nigeria , and was arrested at the airport with the cash concealed inside diapers .
Sulaiman Pai explained that the law of the land mandated that every Traveller who intend to travel with cash above Ten thousand dollars must declare it to the authorities , which Sabo Suleiman failed to do.
The Comptroller haded over the suspect and the Intercepted foreign Currency to the Zonal coordinator of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Kano office.
” I’m handing over the suspect and the cash to your organization for further investigation,as your organization is mandated to tackle such issues”
Suleiman Pai further explained that the Command had generated the sum of over Twelve Billion Naira from January to Date, saying this year’s revenue was above that of last year with over four Billion Naira.
He maitained that within the year under review the command had succeeded in fighting Smuggling Activities, saying the following seizurea were made, foreign rice 108 bags,foreign Soap 413 Cartons ,Sphagetti 512 Cartons, vegetable oil 83 jerrycans, coucous 84 packs among other packs.
Speaking while receiving the suspect and the Intercepted foreign Currencies the Deputy zonal coordinator of EFCC Micheal Nzekwe said they would Commenced investigation on the issue.
He Commended the harmonious working relationship that existed between the two agencies,saying they were all working towards a common Goal.
” I assure you that we’ll investigate on this matter and the Intercepted currencies would returned to the coppers of the federal Government”
He added that the Commission was Steadfast in Curtailing the challenges of money laundering and other related matters.
