Troops of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have killed scores of bandits and recover arms and ammunitions in Zamfara State.

In a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Director Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said the troops while on fighting patrol came under fire of bandits operating along Mayanchi-Dogon Karfe and Fangaltama in Talata Mafara LGA of Zamfara State.

He said during the patrol, bandits were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops and led to neutralizing of scores of the bandits and recovery one PKT (Pulemyot Kalashnikova Tankovyi) Rifle, large cache of ammunition and a motorcycle.

Similarly, Brig. Gen. Onyema noted that, the troops of the 8 Division have neutralized 5 bandits in a separate encounter at Bingi village of Bungudu LGA of Zamfara state, saying, during the Gun duel the bandits withdrew in disarray having sustained severe gunshot wounds.

According to him, the troops recovered One AK47 Riffle, One Motorcycle and 3 mobile phones from the routed criminals.

Onyema Nwachukwu added that, Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Faruk Yahaya urged the troops to sustain the aggressive posture in order to defeat all criminal elements in the Northwest and other parts of the country and called on the communities in the area to support the troops with useful information for the success of their operations.
