House of Representatives is to begin consideration of Bills aim at reforming the country’s National Security.

The Speaker, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila stated this while addressing lawmakers after a two week break that allowed members participated in the recent constitution review.

Mr Femi Gbajabiamila said the Bills were the first related to national security contained in the recommendations of the recent National Security Summit convene by the House as part of its legislative interventions.

According to him, the proposed legislation is to address issues of overlapping mandates resulting in inter-agency rivalry and lack of cooperation amongst the security agencies.

”The Bills are also designed to make community policing operational to ensure cordiality between the security agencies and the communities to protect citizens across the country” he added.

On the government’s decision to suspend the operations of Twitter in Nigeria, the speaker said the House would make sure that regulatory and enforcement actions by the government were in accordance with the laws of the land.

The House therefore mandated its committees on Communication, Justice, Information and Culture, and National Security and Intelligence to immediately commence an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile the House received two communications from President Muhammadu Buhari on a Bill extending the retirement age for Judiciary as well as confirmation of Major Gen. Faruk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff.
