From Abdullahi Jalaludeen

Kano State Government says it is committed in tackling threats posed by the marketers of adulterated food, drinks and fake drugs to the public.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this in Kano when he led the Director General of National Food, Drug Administration Control, Managing Director of Kano State Consumer Protection Council and head of security to burn over four hundred tonnes of seized adulterated food items at the premises of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje noted that such unwholesome act by some individuals was unacceptable especially at a time people are battling major health challenges.

He warned marketers of such unwholesome products to desist from engaging in the illegal act and commended NAFDAC, CPC and security agencies for tracking the culprits.

Dr. Ganduje re-affirmed the commitment of his administration in fighting the scourge to a logical conclusion stressing that with the menace taking a disastrous toll on unsuspecting customers, people would continue to entertain fear about their safety.

In his remarks, the Acting Managing Director of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council(CPC), Alhaji Baffa Babba Danagundi said the Council’s commitment to tackling the menace has been inspired by the support from the State Government .

Earlier in her address, Director-General of National Food and Drugs Administration and Control(NAFDAC) Professor Mojisola Christiana Adeyeye described Kano as a leading pace-cetter in the fight against adulterated food drinks and counterfeit drugs.

She said due to the threat posed by adulterated food, drinks and fake drugs on the health status of innocent victims, NAFDAC would never fold its arms by allowing some irresponsible marketers to hold people to ransome

The occasion was graced by head of security agencies in Kano, stakeholders and the public.
