Federal Government has been urged to allow structured and guided importation of livestock feed ingredients and other raw materials to save the business from total collapse.

This is contained in a Communique issued at the end of a one day seminar on the challenges of Scarcity and high cost of feeds ingredients, organised by Kwara State Animal Science Association of Nigeria held in Ilorin.

The Communique appealed to government to provide adequate security to crop farmers to ensure adequate production of required livestock feed ingredient.

It called for improved collaboration and synergy between researchers and livestock farmers in order to effectively make use of alternative feed ingredients for new livestock management innovations.

The Communique urged research Institutes to target production-based researches that will improve livestock production efficiency and reduce cost of production inputs.

They urged government to initiate a structured ban on egg powder in order to stimulate local production, conserve foreign exchange and improve the income generation of poultry farmers.
