Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has made the presentation of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) compulsory for all categories of vehicle registration.

In a statement on Saturday in Abuja, the spokesperson Mr Bisi Kazeem, says the decision is in compliance with a presidential directive that beginning from second quarter of this year, it is going to be compulsory for people to provide NIN as criteria for vehicle registeration.

“This is part of the security checks. So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhance adequate Intelligence gathering for security of lives and properties.” It explains.

It adds that there will be no waiver for anyone irrespective of their status in the society.

The statement stressed the need for members of the public to enroll in the ongoing NIN registration, as no vehicle will be registered with whose owner is not being captured in the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database.
