Two students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina state, have been killed by their abductors.

A parent, Faiza Kankara, whose son is amongst those kidnapped, told Radio Nigeria that one of the students that escaped from the attackers said the kidnappers killed two of the students in captivity.

She said the student told them that while in captivity, they were being underfed and subjected to inhumane treatment.

The state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari had told newsmen that 17 of the students have been found and reunited with their parents.

According to the Governor, information available shows that 17 of the missing children have been found, 15 of them were found around Dinya in Danmusa Local Government Area.

“I was informed by the DPO that one other student was found, and the father has called to inform them that his son has returned home”.

Bello Masari who pointed out that most of the abducted students were in the forest in Zamfara assured parents that efforts are on to rescue them.

The governor had told a federal delegation that was on a sympathy visit at the Government House in Katsina that at least 333 students were still missing as at last Sunday.

However, indications from the school register at GSSS Kankara show that dozens more were still unaccounted for.

The governor had told newsmen in Kankara that some parents had taken their children home without notifying the school authority, which makes it difficult to ascertain the actual number of missing students.

Armed bandits in their hundreds attacked the all-boys’ boarding school, GSSS Kankara, on Friday night where they kidnapped scores, an attack that dispersed hundreds other students into the forest at the outskirts of Kankara town.

The state police command told reporters that 200 students hiding in the forest were rescued on Saturday while the joint police and military Search and Rescue team is still in the forest on a mission to rescue the other missing school boys.

The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi, Rtd, had assured the government and people of Katsina State that security and Intelligence agencies were given marching orders to rescue the abducted school boys as soon as possible.

Gen. Magashi led a federal government delegation of the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, Chiefs of Army, Naval and Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, and Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency and the Department of State Services on the visit.

The team also held a closed-door meeting with Governor Aminu Masari before proceeding to Daura to brief President Muhammadu Buhari who is on a week-long visit in his country home.
