Zamfara Bye-election: APGA Chieftain To Resist Violence

A former national secretary of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and a governor aspirant in 2019 general election under the APGA, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has vowed to use his ability to challenge all attempts by selfish politicians to cause havoc in Zamfara state.

Alhaji Sani Shinkafi made the promise at a press briefing held at his house in Gusau shortly after attending a stakeholders meeting at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the Bakura rerun slated for Wednesday.

He said, the election conducted on saturday was characterized by massive rigging and serious election malpractices aided and abetted by some officials of Zamfara state Government and PDP political office holders, including security personnel and Yansakai.

The APGA stalwart called on relevant authorities to investigate inflammatory statement made by Alhaji Sani Garba, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and dire hard loyalist of former governor Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar during the stakeholders meeting held at the INEC state headquarters Gusau.

“Alhaji Sani Garba better known as Sani General or Sani during the stakeholders meeting categorically said the APC was not ready for the Wednesday Bakura bye election rerun, threatening that if the election is not postponed the APC will hire thugs to disrupt the election”.

Shinkafi further disclosed that 11 of the 14 political parties which participated in the Bakura bye election are ready to participate in the Wednesday rerun except APC and one other party.

According to him, APC brought in soldiers from Zuru in Kebbi state to intimidate civilians in Zamfara state because the party is the party at the centre.

He also challenge INEC to ensure that it conduct free and fair rerun election and ensure that the Returning Officer will not be sentimental in announcing the election results.

“The Returning Officer for last Saturday’s bye election, Professor Ibrahim Magawata statement that if the cancelled votes were added to APC’s votes, the APC would win the election was very unfortunate and controversial.
