Jigawa State Government says the prevalence of HIV has reduced significantly from one point nine percent to zero point three percent in the last two years across the state.

The State Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Namadi disclosed this in Dutse on the commemoration of 2020 World Aids Day.

Mallam Umar Namadi who was represented by the Director Administration and Finance, office of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abba Mustapha explained that a survey conducted by NAIIS in 2018 confirmed that the number HIV has reduced drastically in the state.

He pointed out the number of HIV fatalities have gone down as well as number of new infections also reduced yearly.

According to him, the state had witnessed credible progress which is due to the concerted, multi institutional, multi faceted efforts made to avail test kits, reduce spread and transmissions of virus amongst couples.

He urged all stakeholders to support and commit themselves towards working together hand in hand, with increase support to PLHIVs and passion in the realisation of their vision in HIV free state generation.

The Deputy Governor therefore congratulated the policy makers, service providers, SACA management and all relevant stakeholders for their commitment to adding their voice against HIV stigma and discrimination.

He encouraged them to continue to put together through innovative advocacy programmes to ensure that jigawa state will have free HIV state generation in future.
