House of Representatives is to come up with a bill that would protect officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from any attack while discharging their constitutional mandate.

Chairman House committee on Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr Akinfolarin Mayowa, stated this during the corps’ 2021 budget defence in Abuja.

Mr Akinfolarin Mayowa, explained that the bill if passed into law will allow the corps to bear arms for self defence and reduce the number of their men being killed during crisis.

The chairman said it was necessary that the laws of the land were obeyed to allow the corps to function effectively by bearing arms.

The Committee Chairman also assured the Corp that the House would meet with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and also write to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the implementation of the Act.

Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshall, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, said members of the corps were now faced with more deviant road users, threatened to deal with them on the road.

Mr Boboye Oyeyemi said despite economic hardship the country has under gone, the Corp has remitted N1.5 billion naira to the consolidated account in the outgoing year.

On the incessant accident on the nation’s major highways, the Corp Marshall urged the Federal Government to direct local government to relocate markets from highways so as to stop trend.
