Federal government says it will continue to take pragmatic ways of mitigating the impact faced by Nigerians due to insecurity and covid-19 pandemic.

Minister of State for Agriculture, Alhaji Mustapha Shehuri stated this at a special stakeholders meeting in Maiduguri.

According to him, the EndSARS protest has not resonated with youth in Borno as the State is yet to recover from the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency.

The State has remain calm throughout the period of the protest with the military recording more gains in the fight against insurgency.

However in compliance with the presidential directive for ministers to solicit the support of political, traditional, religious and youth groups in the maintenance of peace,  Minister of state for Agriculture Alhaji Mustapha Shehuri said the platform is also an opportunity to foster unity among different segment of the society.

The minister expressed commitment of the present administration towards uplifting the standard of living of the citizenry.

He therefore urged the youths to take advantage of numerous policies and programs embarked upon by the federal government so as to be gainfully employed and contribute their qouta in nation building.

“The President commnded the decorum exhibited by youths in Borno State during the recent widespread protest and further advised to maintain the peaceful conduct and harmony so that the State can spring back to maintain the historic position as the center of peace in the country”.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum called on youths to refrain from any act that could undermine the relative peace being enjoyed in the State.

Professor Zulum commended the federal government for its continued effort in addressing the plight of IDPs and other vulnerable people assuring of more intervention to assuage their hardship.

Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi commended youths in the state for exercising restraint during the ENDSARS that turned violent in parts of the country.

The Shehu called for more investment in the education sector to have a better and informed society in the future.

Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that the stakeholders engagement was in compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on promoting peace in parts of the country following the ENDSARS protest.
