Federal Government is to establish a Robotics and Artificial Technology Centre to harness the potentials in the ICT sector.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami stated this while speaking at the maiden Digital Nigeria Day and World Development Information Day in Abuja.

Dr Pantami said the Centre would also serve as a means to inspire young people to embrace new frontiers in ICT to tackle unemployment.

He said already over 11400 Nigerians had registered for the Digital Nigeria Academy, an online institution for digital learning while efforts were on to enhance cyber security in the nation’s cyber space.

On local ICT products, the minister explained that the patronage had risen to 500% within a year due to implementation of the local content policy of the present administration.

Speaking, the Managing Director, National Identity Management Commission NIMC, Mr Aliyu Azeez said the Commission was working closely with relevant agencies to ensure effective data management of the nation’s populace.

The Digital Nigeria Day is a day set aside to harness the potentials of stakeholders in Digital services and the ICT sector to foster economic growth.
